I am having a colonoscopy done next week, and of course I am a little scared and nervous… Does it hurt? Can you feel the scope moving inside your colon? Is the preparation really bad?
Colonoscopy cuts out growths of a certain size within your colon. Supposedly, those larger ones are most susceptible of becoming cancerous. Makes good sense. However, would cutting such growths cause an in situ cancer (benign) to spread. I read that when you do biopsy of breast or prostate tissue, one can actually cause a benign cancer to spread and become dangerous. Why would it not work the same for the colon?

can the colonoscopy spread the HPV virus from a patient infected in his/her anus into his/her colon?
If this is possible, can the HPV then infect and start cancer in the colon after this procedure?

My best friend’s doctor recommended she go for an optical colonoscopy. I’ve heard way too many horror stories of Dr’s in the Tampa FL area perforating the patient’s colon during this exam and they’ve almost died….some HAVE died, only to find out that 96% of the patients had nothing wrong with them to begin with. I know insurance probably won’t pay for this test because it’s cheaper, non invasive, more accurate and alot less stressful for the patient and requires no sedation or lost time from work….(why should the patient be considered when all insurance companies are out for is to make as much money as they possibly can, right?) I need help here, I don’t want to see my best friend die or be injured by some intern that doesn’t know what he’s doing. Please help!!!
