I have been having bowel problems for over a year , pain, constipation , lactose intolerance, the feel that i have’t completely finished. bowel movements that have been very small and sticky.
It all seemed to start in January 2011 I had horrible abdominal pains and was severely constipated..since then it has been downhill,Slowly getting worse. Sometimes going a week before bowel movement. The symptoms sometimes change . I typically never have very dry bowel movements, I did in the earlier months.
Now the thing is From Sept -DEC 2011 I was giving many different doses of antibiotics……I was having irritation in my urethra that they kept saying was a urinary tract infection but just at the time wouldn’t go away….SO
I received 10/5/2010 – (10) Levofloxacin 500mg
10/26/10 – (10) Ciprofloxacin 500mg
11/9/10 – (4) Azithromycin 250 mg
12/6/10- (10) Levofloxacin 500mg
12/21/10- (20) Doxycycline Hyclate 100mg
Now i know maybe it;s a coincidence because the bacteria in your intestines are suppose to eventually come back. But I just find that weird. I have a colonoscopy coming up in a week .. But I’m trying to get info about if its anything I can take or has anyone ever heard of antibiotics causing these kind of problems long term.
Yeast overgrowth?

Hi. I am going to the doctor soon, but just wanted some opinions if anyone out there has gone through this. I took clyndamycin for a week. A couple weeks after, I was having shooting pain and cramps in my stomach and a lot of trips to the bathroom, not quite diarrhea, just very soft stools. The last couple of weeks, I thought I was better-just one trip to the bathroom daily, still soft stools, but not diarrhea. Today and the last couple of days, I’ve gone two times to the bathroom per day, and beforehand I get the sharp pains and cramps again and throughout the day, very soft stools but one time today was diarrhea. Did I get colitis from the pills or is this post-IBS or…anyone gone through this? Just anxious for some opinions before I go to the docs. Thanks.
i had a bad sinus infection and went to the doctors last week. i was prescribed amoxicillin for 10 days. i started taking them last thursday and i’ll be done with them on saturday. i started getting heartburn 3 days into taking them and get it after every meal.
so is it possible for amoxicillin to cause heartburn?
dadnbob: my pill bottle nor the sheet that came with it told me to take with food or a glass of milk.
after i started to get heartburn i decided i should take it with milk but that is not helping very much.

over a long period of time, antibiotics treatments can affect digestion in humans, and there are similar effects in cows and horses. describe the effect of antibiotics and the consequences to digestion.
Some IBS patients show a response to certain antibiotics. A discussion by Eamonn Quigley, MD, on the on why this may be and possible issues of safety and effectiveness. Dr. Quigley is Professor of Medicine and Human Physiology at University College, Cork (National University of Ireland).
Was on a round of antibiotics (cephalexin) for a bladder infection. Had to quit the meds mid-way through because I got severe stomach cramps and horrible heartburn. I tried it with food, I tried it without food — no difference. One day after I stopped taking it, the stomach cramps and heartburn stopped.
