I heard that cymbalta is good for back pain and ibs if this is true and what is the side effects?
I have chronic back pain and ibs constipation, i heard that doctors are prescribing cymbalta before i go to the doctor i want to make sure of the side effects. i know that doctors wont tell you about it.
cymbalt is a antidepresant but i have friends that they are taking cymbalta for back pain, ibs, migraine and other pain kind of pain. because it relaxes the muscles it helps with the pain also.
Cymbalta can help chronic pain – not acute. It is an antidepressant, but using an antidepressant for pain is not a new idea – the old tricyclic antidepressants like elavil are often used for chronic pain and sleep disorders.
I’ve not heard of it being used for IBS though…. that seems like a dr handing out an expensive placebo to me.
So in short – Yes for chronic back pain (not temporary) no for IBS/Constipation… for that, I’d go with MiraLax. (It’s over the counter in the US now.)
I thought cymbalta was an antidepressant.
