When should I be concerned if my dog has diarrhea?
I have a 1 year old, female Siberian Husky who seems to be getting diarrhea all the time. I’ve switched her food to a raw diet thinking it was the food but that hasn’t helped. She still plays a lot and doesn’t show any signs of discomfort so I’m not sure if I should be concerned.
I do suggest going to the vet, but you can also try Kaopectate. It is very soft on the dog’s stomach and won’t harm the dog at all. You mentioned you had switched your dog’s diet. That alone can sometimes trigger a diarrhea problem. You can try feeding her a small amount of rice (brown) or some plain maccaroni. I agree with one of the previous statements below about the WELLNESS foods. It is the best dog food I have found and is better (I think) than the raw diet, plus you don’t have to deal with the mess.
If this is an ongoing problem, please see your vet. They’ll advise you about a simple diet to follow as changing diet can cause this in itself. There are other conditions that might need checking out. Good luck.
If it’s happening often you should take her to the vet. It could be a sign of some gastro-intestinal problem. They’ll be able to tell you for sure, and also if it is, what foods should be included or excluded from her diet. Good luck.

i would suggest talking to your vet. they can do some tests to make sure that nothing serious is wrong. this has happened with my dog sometimes, but it turned out that it was his food. changing his food helped so much and now he’s fine. he also has food allergies, but he’s on the Wellness Simple Solutions dog food. he likes it, and it’s a very basic food with only 5 ingredients but its good quality!
If it last for a long time you may want to do something about it. If she seems fine and it doesn’t have blood in it and she isn’t dehydrated, she should be fine!!
If it has been going on for awhile first call your vet, tell them about it then see what htey say, it it doesnt help take her in. Better safe then sorry.
Take her to the vet and have a fecal test done. It could be worms or an intestinal bacteria.
diarrhea – can you describe? is there blood? is it just mushy? i’m not trying to be funny – i switched my dogs to a raw diet not too long ago and they started having really mushy poop – it resembled diarrhea due to it’s mushiness – but it wasn’t – the raw diet just had way too much protein. I took them to the vet to get them checked (one was running a fever, the other two perfectly fine) The vet recommended me to switch to eagle pack hollistic which contains acidophillus (i believe other brands contain this too, just search the ingredients) it is a product used in yoghurt. It helps flush out all the bad bacteria in the dog’s stomach that may be causing the loose stool or diarrhea. I had the dogs on this and no longer than a few days they are doing fine. You can try a small bag of the fish if you want – many people feed fish to snowdogs especially in colder regions – it is good for them and their coat. Or purchase from a store that allows you to return the food if you are not satisfied.
Well its best to find a vet you trust and give what he/she prescribes. Since it is messy, ask if you can give some pepto bismol……ive heard you can but just ask
Is she getting people food? I have to make sure my dog only has one brand of dog food and not switch between them. It also has to be a highend brand. Or she will get diarrhea.
If she were younger, I would think it was ‘puppy diarrhea’, but if she is one year old, it is more likely that the diarrhea was caused by something she ate. Does she go outside unsupervised? She could be eating something that is making her sick. (Grass doesn’t count; dogs eat grass to supplement their diet with vitamins dog food doesn’t provide.) If not, or if you stop her eating whatever it is she has gotten into and the diarrhea doesn’t improve, see your veterinarian.
OMG. SEE THE VET. BECAUSE IT CAN HAVE LIEK A DIGESTIVE MITE OR SOMETHIGN. SICNE SHE IS A PUUPYY THERE A MITE THAT THEY GET IN THEIR INTESTINES WHICH STARTS WITH A "G" OR SOMETHING. MY PUUPY HAS IT. IT HAPPENS WHEN THEY STEP IN THEIR STOOL AND THEN THEY LICK THEIR PAWS. DONT WORRRY THOUGH, BECAUSE ALMOST EVERY PUPPY GETS IT BECAUSE OF A LOW IMMUNE SYSTEM. JSUT GO TO UR VET AND THEYLL DO A TEST WHICH ONLY TAKES 10 MINUTES. just go.
I would take her to the vet just to be on the safe side. She may have reactions to certain foods.
