Is diarrhea really related to cutting teeth in infants?
I care for an 11 month old child who has had diarrhea (slimey, gooey, pale green) for two weeks straight. The parents assure me its the result of her cutting teeth, but none of my 3 children ever experienced this. I don’t want my own children to get it, should I ask for a doctors note for her to return to my care, or just keep her?
cutting teeth can cause diarrhea, and tons of moms around the world have reported that, so that’s gotta be true to some extent. My daughter gets the runs when cutting teeth. BUT, a gooey diarrhea is a sign of parasites, which is not a life threatening thing but needs to be treated with antibiotics. I think you should tell her parents that a slimey gooey diarrhea is a sign of amoebiasis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entamoeba_histolytica or some other parasitic diseases that need to be treated cause they can be easily spread to other children. With just a sample of poop a lab can tell wheter she has parasites or not. But a child with diarrhe is a threat for other children in a daycare. Yes, you should def. ask for a Dr’s note.

Cutting teeth can cause diarrhea, but a pediatrician will never say that. However, diarrhea should not last for two weeks for anything. That is not good for the baby. I would ask for a doctor’s note. Something else is probably causing the diarrhea.
All the excess saliva that the baby is swallowing can cause watery BM, but i don’t htink diarrhea, I would have them get a note from the pediatrician!
Yes, all my children had loose bowel movements while teething.
this article says that it’s not all that uncommon, but very annoying. maybe you can follow their advice to help alleviate it.
Yes, all my children and grandchildren had loose stools while teething. Because all the children in my family were breastfed until they were in kindergarten and fed only an organic/vegan diet, this is to be considered normal.
