How should I treat my pug who has the diarrhea?
We bought him at 6 mnths and he was eating Eukanuba at the store.We now give him pedigree and its been 6 months he still has diarrhea.

I’d get him in to see the vet. It is probably not the food. It could be Coccidia or Giardia.
If you got it at a pet store, it could easily be a puppymill dog along with the usual health problems.
From what you said, I am assuming you bought him from a pet store? If so, then your puppy came from a puppymill and they are notorious for rampant diseases like coccidia, giardia and parasites. I recently got in a pug puppy that was a release from a puppymill and she too had severe diarrhea. A fecal exam by the vet revealed she had whipworms and giardia. A 3 day course of panacur and her stools were firm again. Take a stool sample to your vet. IF he finds nothing and the diarrhea continues, have them do another fecal test. Many diseases and parasites are hard to detect if they are not in an active part of their life cycle so rechecking is a must. Good luck and I hope you get this figured out.
I also wanted to add that it could be the food. Pedigree is not the worst food but it is far from the best. It contains corn and many dogs have an intolerance for corn and the result is diarrhea.
Have you had him checked for worms? You may need to try a dog food that helps with sensitive stomach,and that is easily digestible.Since hes still a young dog are you feeding him puppy food or adult food. Watch the labels and see how much meat protien is in it,that can cause problems to with his stomach.
Stop feeding him for awhile. Hydrate him and get him back onto Eukanuba. But do it in small steps. Mix the eukanuba with pedigree and feed him the mix, over time, taking out the pedigree in the mix.
I would stop feeding Pedigree and other Recall list commercial dog food. Mean time, feed rice with Chicken broth for few days. You can give half tablet of Imodium which is safe for the dogs. Take him to a vet and follow her/his advice.
Go to Petco. Petsmart and get yourself some Pet Pectillin, which is diarrhea medication for pets. Use this and it should clear up after several days. You will have to give this to him every four hours per the instructions. My dog just went through it and the Pectillin worked fine. It saved me a 50 dollar vet bill. The medicine runs around 8 dollars. Good Luck
i agree with the first person. Pet store puppies are usually not 100% healthy so you should take it to the vet and have it checked on.
also if it is the food, instead of feeding him his food, just give him about 1 cup of rice.
Sounds like he may have an allergy to something in the food, or he may possibly have an intestinal parasite. First, take him to the vet if you haven’t already. If he/she has no answers, do what you would do for a child with suspected allergies–put him on a very bland diet (rice, oatmeal, etc.) and then introduce one new thing at a time to see if you can identify an allergy. Hill’s Science diet ZD is completely hypoallergenic, but is expensive and stinks to high heaven and I would only recommend it as a last resort. Long term diarrhea can cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalances and can be fatal. Please find a good vet to work with you–a homeopathic vet would be great if your dog does have food allergies. Good luck.
my dog had diarreah a few months ago and it was a parasite in his intestines – not life threatening, but not comfortable for him. take him to a vet and have them do a stool test to see if he has anything going on. if he does, ask the vet to put him on food designed for animals with sensitive/sick stomachs (it’s basically dog baby food) for 3 days or so. make sure he has plenty of water, as diarrhea is very dehydrating.
Good luck! I hope your puppy feels better!
you shouldn’t wait that long,cause may get dehydrated,go to the vet,or ad list call,other then this give him cooked rice with cooked chicken.for my dog I use the pepcid ac ,of course you ask the vet about the dosage& also the food …ask the vet what he reccomend,cause maybe your puppy have very sensitive stomach or intense problem?
Hi. I work for a pet store and our puppies sometimes get diarrhea…although there are medications that you can buy at a pet store, a veterinarian can easily prescribe you the medication, albon, for the diarrhea, and Amoxicillin or Clavamox as an antibiotic. Amoxicillin is a pink liquid antibiotic that is milder than the white liquid Clavamox. Albon can come in a yellow liquid or a white pill that can be given to your pug twice a day. Also, be sure that he is getting plenty of water because diarrhea can leave him dehydrated. If he starts to look a little weak from dehydration, add a little bit of sugar to his water to help sooth his stomach and give him an extra boost of energy.
Warm Chicken Broth for the first day, there after broth, rice and chicken till diarrhea subsides. {Boiled} After he /she has a hard stool try mixing soft food with hard puppy food. He/She lil tummy is raw and needs to heal. I almost guarantee this will work.:}
The second person is completely right..while you’re waiting on the vet, try to get him to drink pedialyte..try unflavored. Good Luck..coccidia can be bad if you wait too long…
