Ferret with diarrhea but no other symptoms?
For about a week now, my ferret has had diarrhea. I’ve tried searching online, but he has no other symptoms of any disease except for the diarrhea. He’s acting normal, eating and drinking normally, and otherwise seems healthy.
He was, however, on antibiotics up until a week ago. Is it possible that the antibiotics caused this? I’m planning to take him to the vet since it hasn’t gone away, but I just was wondering if this could be just nothing and I’m overreacting.
I agree with ClaudetteBillie
You can give him 1 teaspoon a day plain low fat yogurt to replace the heathy bacteria the antibiotics destroyed but he still needs to go back to the vet but you already know that.
he scored some bad weed
He needs to see a vet, otherwise he will dehydrate. Just keep giving him plenty of water. Have you changed food lately? Sometimes they get diarrhea from that. He could also have internal parasites.
Yup definitely get him to the vet. Like others have said he’s at risk of becoming dehydrated. If it will be awhile before the vet, get a syringe and some unflavored Pedialyte and squirt some of it in his mouth to keep him hydrated.
According to the link in my sources, diarrhea can be caused by dairy products, food allergies, stress, coccidia, or camphobacter. It can also be due to something new that he’s recently eaten or too much of one thing. (For example, 3 treats instead of his usual 1 may make him poop weird.) If it goes on for over 48 hours then you usually need to get them to the vet.
