Can I give my Boston Terrier Immodium for his diarrhea?
He’s 10 months old, and is having some allergy issues. We have to find a food that works, but it’s causing diarrhea switching his food every 2-4 weeks.
Has anyone ever given their dog Immodium?
I wouldn’t give him medication without checking with my vet. But since she charges for phone consultations, I thought I would check here first to see if it was even possible.
mix sum canned pumpkin in with the dog food … (giving them less dog food of course ..just a few table spoons) it is low cal ,good for them and most dogs LOVE it. ( canned unsweetened, unspiced plain ole pumpkin)( not the pie filling tho) you can get it anywhere.IT is also great for diarrhea and constipation.
Diarrhea is very deadly for a dog ..if it continues you have to take him to a vet
Never give your dog any medication without consulting with your vet.
Yes, you can give Imodium to your dog for the management of diarrhea but remember, this drug will not treat infection causing diarrhea. Dose of Imodium in dogs is 0.08 mg per Kg body weight for 3-4 times in a day or one capsule of 2 mg for the dogs with weight more than 10 Kg. Below 10 Kg weight, Imodium should be given in liquid form.
Please note, no medicine should be given to any pet without consulting a vet because drugs can be toxic for the animals.
never give human medication to an animal unless the vet says its safe..
until you find a food that agrees with your dog you need to make sure theres plenty of fresh water available to him and if the problem continues then ask your vet for something safe to give him..
i think its ok, a website said to never give it to cats, but for dogs its ok. heres the dosage:
Dogs: 0.05-0.1 mg/pound by mouth every 8 hours. Treatment should only be needed for 1-2 days. If diarrhea persists or worsens, contact your veterinarian.
Always consult your vet, but yes I never go anywhere without a box of Kaopektate in the glovebox. (for me & the dogs)
When traveling, strange water can be just as bad as strange food.
Remember that these products only treat an acute problem, they have no effect on a chronic problem.
Phone your vet before you give anything to your dog. I wouldn’t give that though. Remember; the dog’s body differs greatly from the human body, so something safe for you, may be disasterous for your dog.
No.
Human medicine should never be used on any animal unless your vet has told you to.
The best thing to give them is Kaopektate….is is not as harsh on their liver as pepto and immodium.
Never ever give your dog any medications and those especially made for humans unless specifically advised to dos o by your vet
They sell diarrhea medication specifically for dogs but if it’s an allergy you are only treating the symptoms and not the cause. You really need to identify the reason for the diarrhea first.
You can give your dog anything you like. After all, it’s your dog.
BUT ………
…………. the wise dog owner ALWAYS checks with a vet first. They don’t go on YAHOO answers looking for free medical advice from a World full of strangers with no medical experience.

Now; did I fake the information below, or is it legitimate?

Loperamide (ImodiumĀ®)By: Dr. Dawn Ruben
Loperamide is a synthetic piperidine derivative, a weak narcotic with antidiarrheal properties.
Loperamide works by slowing the movement of the intestines. It may decrease intestinal secretions and may enhance mucosal absorption.
The medication is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and metabolized by the liver.
Some veterinarians feel that loperamide has a faster onset of action and longer duration of action than diphenoxylate (LomotilĀ®).
Loperamide is available without a prescription but should not be administered unless under the supervision and guidance of a veterinarian.
This drug is not approved for use in animals by the Food and Drug Administration but it is prescribed legally by veterinarians as an extra-label

Immodium doesn’t work, give him 100% pure canned pumpkin either alone or mixed in with his food, it’s all natural, dogs love it and it clears them up in 8 hours.
Make sure it’s pure and not pie filling.
No. Just to get your dog food problems over with, the best dog foods for your dog would be:
Iams
Ceaser
Pedigree
Anything else includes un-natural ingredients and will cause alergic reactions and infections.
GOOD LUCK!
I have given dogs Pepto Bismol with no problems, but never Imodium.
My Boston Terrier has allergies> Turned out it wasn’t her food at all. The vet gave her allergy medicine and she is fine now. She has to stay on her allergy medicine all the time. Bostons are very touchy when you go changing their food around. Ours will actually vomit. I wouldnt be giving it anything until you talk to your vet
Twice a day serve your dog a cup or so of brown rice, which acts as a binder. You can make it more appealing to your dog by flavoring it with a little chicken or beef broth, or mixing in a spoonful of cottage cheese or a scrambled egg.
Most cases of ordinary diarrhea clear up in a day or two. You’ll know your dog has gotten over it when he skips one of his regular pooping sessions.
If the diarrhea persists, call your vet; it could the sign of a more serious problem.
Diarrhea is the passing of loose or liquid stool, more often than normal. The cause could be related to problems with your dog’s small intestine, large intestine, or other organs.
This kind of meal should make him okay, http://dogtime.com/treating-diarrhea.html
