Best home or over-the-counter remedy for a dog's diarrhea.?
I have golden retriever, which as well as three other dogs I have, I keep outside. He has been having an ongoing problem with diarrhea even though he is on the same diet as my other dogs, who aren’t having that problem. What might be causing that, and what are the best remedies ( without going to a vet and spending hundreds of $s) to alleviate or cure that?
try deworming all three
Time to stop being cheap. TAKE YOUR DOG TO A VET.
If your dog has had diarrhea take him to the vet don’t try to treat it yourself. You have to find the cause of the diarrhea.
If this is an ongoing problem and not a one-off bout, you really need to take him to the vet. He could have a parasite or worms and need treatment (And it won’t cost you 100′s of dollars!).
Any diarrhea lasting more than 24 hrs warrants a call or visit to the vet. When my dogs have it, I fast them for 24 hours (12 if 6 months or younger) then start them on a boiled chicken and rice diet (several small meals). Once stool returns to normal, slowly start mixing kibble in with chicken/rice diet. Canned pumpkin (100% pumpkin from the baking aisle, NOT pumpkin pie mix) is a great rememdy for both diarrhea and constipation. I mix that in with the chicken and rice
The food may not agree with him or he may have an intestinal infection or parasites. Your vet can give you meds to cure him and offer advice.
take it to the vet
if you have a dog you should be prepared and able to pay for vet bills.
some times if he eats something off or is not used to the diet keopeptyate is very good i give it to my dogs sorry about the spelling of the name but it works
i had trouble w/my dog having diarreah awhile back and i called my vet she said to get the pepto bismol chewables and give those to him start w/2 at first and then give 1 every 6-8 hrs after that and feed him small portions of boiled chicken and rice no spicesabout 2xaday until it has subsided.
Take to the vet to find out what is wrong. I use pumpkin ( not pie filling but can pumpkin) also a dog can take pepto bismol. Both of these were told to use on my dogs by my vet.
Try giving him a little canned cooked pumpkin (not pie filler with spices). If his stools are watery he will need vet care and meds, take him to the vet.
The cause can be a number of things. It can be a reaction to his food, something he’s gotten into in the yard, worms or another type of infection. My vet had me feed my dogs white rice with boiled chicken to stop the diarrhea. It did work but you will need to determine what the cause is or it will just keep coming back. A visit to the vet may be needed.
