At least once per month my dog vomits and has diarrhea in the middle of the night. What are possible causes?
I adopted this dog in the early summer and nearly every month he has an "episode" where he wakes me up in the middle of the night vomiting and having diarrhea. It’s gone in a day or so, after that. He eats sensitive stomach food and he gets very few table scraps. He’s going to the vet on Saturday, but I would like to get the Community’s point of view.
ask the vet to do some blood tests,to check liver function and pancreas function.I had a dog for many years(11years) he had a sensitive tummy, started only when he was around a 1yr or 1.5yr.
our vet did a test called TLI and after the result came back,we had to give him digestive enzymes(sprinkle on his food).
He got better right away!
To buy digestive enzymes,go to any health food store and ask for it.
its good for people too and good for dogs that have a hard time digesting their food and have hard time gaining weight.
No fatty snacks until you get the test done on the dog!
its a bit expensive test,i paid around $80,but its worth it.
dont give him ANY table scrapes simple ….
It’s a bit hard without much more information, but………
1. Make sure there is no onion in the table scraps.
2. My boy is a BC and he randomly threw up one day. The next month he randomly threw up again about 3 days after his spot on treatment for worms etc. Not random at all – Collies of all types can be allergic to an ingredient in the spot on. Might be worth checking
Otherwise as others have said take your pup to the vet and get them checked out. Better to be safe than sorry.
My best friends dog did that and we were trying to figure out what causes it. She wrote down everything her dog did and had to eat every day. But what actually cause the diarrhea was the heart-worm preventive. She gave her *Interceptor* and having diarrhea was a side effect.
But have the vet do some blood test, maybe he can figure it out.
good luck…;-)
