What happens at an initial consultation for a colonoscopy?
Do you just go in and talk to the Doctor? Get a prescription for the prep pills or liquid? Does he have to do an exam? If so, please explain what is done.

Yes you just talk with Dr and he/she will tell you what to expect and what they’ll be looking for. If for some reason they believe you don’t need it they’ll probably call it off. You’ll get your liquid lax and other meds before you leave. If you get the gallon of laxative I recommend you mix it early in the morning the day prior to your exam, and mix it with Crystal Light instead of the flavor pak they give you. And make sure its chilled before you drink it.
And no its not a painful procedure but it is a little discomforting.
It’ll just be information about the procedure, and what you need to do to prepare, then u’ll go to the pharmacy and get whatever he said to. Don’t worry, u won’t have to deal with the probe just yet
The doctor will explain why it is a good idea to get one, and further explain the procedure. He will tell you what to take to clean out your bowels, and also anything else that you have to do in preparation. You will make an appointment, and when you go in, they will give you some drugs to make it as easy for you as possible. The first colonoscopy is to establish a baseline, after that the doctor will recommend when you should have your next one.
