How often does the medical experts recommend that a person should have a Colonoscopy? I had one about 6 years?
ago, and they found a couple of polyps but no cancer. My doctor hasn’t said anything when I go in for my annual checkup.

That depends on your medical history as well as that of close family members. If they found a couple (two) benign polyps you should have been retested at 5 years. If they found three or more it should have been preferable one year but no more than three years. If they didn’t follow the guidelines, I would find another GI doc. Usually with three or more they want to check to be sure they didn’t miss any. At three years they can spot new small growths. with only one or two they are pretty safe with a 5 year retest. Catching them while benign is the objective.
If you have no medical history of colorectal cancer for yourself or in your family it is usually about every10 yrs after age 50. It may be done earlier, again, depending on your medical history. But remember, if your doc doesn’t mention something and you have a question, ASK IT, that is what they are there for, no matter how busy they act.
I’m not sure
The clinic I worked for-Health Partners- and they went by every five years.
If you have had polyps, or any kind of colon disease (such as Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, IBS, etc) then you need to have a colonoscopy once every THREE to FIVE years starting from the diagnosis of your disease, or discovery of polyps. For example, I’m only to thirty, but I have mild colon disease, plus polyps. So I have to have one every 3 years until the very end.
If you had polyps 6 years ago, you need to schedule another colonoscopy soon. Your body is prone to developing polyps and they should be removed lest they become cancerous.
