Colonoscopy?
i asked a question a few days ago about they dr recomending a colonoscopy after finding a large mass… she thinks its colon cancer… ok my question is she refered me to a gastroligist how ever you spell that and now its a week later tomorrow is my appointment they said the first app whith him was just going to talk what does that mean is he going to want to poke me down there too?? and how long after the first app with him till i do the colonoscopy????
Sorry about your potential problem; but, it could be benign (a biopsy is required to confirm). The good news is your doctor refereed you to a Gastroenterologist as opposed to a surgeon. I would still check-out the Gastroenterologist for qualifications, Board Certifications and how many Colonoscopys they have done. I did not use the GI my doctor recommended and I told my doctor, the GI she recommended lacked adequate qualifications based on my research.
Your visit to the GI Doc, should be information gathering for both of you (remember to interview him). Eventually, he will don the glove and do an exam. After which, he will tell you if he concurs about the Colonoscopy. You need to be prepared to negotiate preps and whether you want to be sedated or not. If the doctor takes offense at your questions and pulls the "it’s my way or the highway approach", you should get another doctor because communication is imperative. As for how long, that depends on the doctor. If he also suspects colon cancer he should schedule it very quickly. Otherwise, I’d question his compassion.
But then that’s my opinion and I already told you, everyone has one. Good Luck and God Bless
I had a colonoscopy 4 years ago and it took 2 weeks from seeing him till the appointment to do exam
he will examine you yes and ask you a few questions good luck hope all will be ok
