What specific foods should you stay away from when suffering from bloating, gas and occasion diarrhea?
My daughter is 13 and suffers from, what I believe to be, an Irritable Bowel Syndrome. She has frequent bouts of terrible gas and I would like to know what foods to eliminate from her daily diet. I have already spoke to our family doctor but she didn’t offer much relief except to take her to a specialist which I am doing. In the meantime, any helpful advice would be greatly appecriated. Thank you. :0)
I am sorry to hear that your daughter is suffering. I also have mild ibs, and i know what a pain it can be!
The exact foods that trigger ibs episodes vary from person to person, so once you find that out, you can learn to avoid those certain foods. Also, do you think she may be lactose intolerant? Have her stay away from all dairy products for a week and see if anything changes (if you are worried about her receiving adequate calcium, try soy products or supplements).
Here is a list of foods that commonly trigger ibs symptoms in most people. Again, it is different for everyone:
-citrus fruits
-anything spicy
-veggies containing a lot of sulfur (brocolli, cabbage, cauliflower)
-coffee
-chocolate
-wheat/gluten products
-carbonated beverages (soda)
-anything containing artificial sweeteners
In the meantime, there are also many natural remedies you can look into. Gingeroot is supposed to help the gi tract. And i know from experience that peppermint helps to calm ibs symptoms.
Best of luck to you and your daughter!
For an irritated bowel, I would suggest avoiding spiced foods. Go with kind of bland food like mashed potatoes. Drink a lot of cranberry juice because that helps with digestion.
Steamed Veggies and oily foods are also a small taboo. Mostly complex foods that have a lot of spices or sauces (and unfortunatly flavor), should be avoided.
I hope I helped a little!!
Stay away from spicy, fatty, oily foods. Yeah thats what I thought I had but no its was actually cause I wasnt getting enough fiber and wasnt going for months so I got really really sick. More fiber and lots of water. Has your daughter seen a regular doctor or a stomach doctor. Theres a big difference. The stomach doctor can help a bit more than the regular doctor. Most of the time.
