What is the best way to relieve the bloating after a colostomy.?
My abdomen is distended and I am in pain. I just had surgery 4 days ago.
I’d call your doctor and tell him. I have regular colostomies since colon cancer runs in our family–both my mother and her sister died of it and now their brother, my uncle, has it. But the bloating never lasted but a day or so. Have you tried laying on your stomach so that you expel more air? Too, normal bowel movements should have resumed by now.
Depending on whether or not you had your abdomen fully opened or just had a laparoscopic procedure, you will experience gas and bloating. The best remedy, in my opinion, is to stay on clear liquids for a while and when you do try to eat something more filling, allow yourself 2 to 3 hours of time to digest your food prior to bed. If the symptoms still persist, either seek relief with OTC meds or seek professional help. Don’t ignore the symptoms, sometimes it can be SERIOUS!!!
